Psalm 2 is a Messianic Psalm concerning the inheritance Christ would receive by His death, burial and resurrection. A Messianic Psalm points to the finished work of the cross.
7 I will tell of the decree: The Lord said to me, “You are my Son; today I have begotten you. 8 Ask of me, and I will make the nations your heritage, and the ends of the earth your possession. 9 You shall break them with a rod of iron and dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel.”
I have found over the past several weeks and months that the Lord has been expanding my understanding about the power of the “Gospel”. Jesus said this about the power of the gospel in Luke 4:18-19 (ESV) after he exited from His 40 day fast followed by the Devil’s temptation in the desert.
“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, 19 to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor.”
In other words, Jesus has come to restore all that was lost at the fall of man in the garden. The Apostle John wrote this about Jesus’ coming in 1 John 3:81 (ESV)
Whoever makes a practice of sinning is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil.
Another verse that supports this understanding is Colossians 2:13-14 (ESV)
“And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, 14 by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross.”
What dominion Adam lost through disobedience was restored to us by Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross.Now if you think that the gospel only applies to us personally, you have far too narrow a scope. I find many believers today have a spiritual understanding but do not understand the full extent of our inheritance. Much of today’s church have become modern day “Gnostics”. All you need to do is do a careful study of the scriptures to realize this. It begins in Genesis 1:27-28 (ESV)
“So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. 28 And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”
Jesus originally commanded us to take dominion over land, air and water (LAW). These verses are also used in the preamble of the “United States Declaration of Independence.”
“When in the course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.
Our nations fore-fathers recognized the fact that dominion of creation including the nations was man’s responsibility under the will of God. The scripture also teaches this in the great commission of Matthew 28:18
“And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations,”
And Mark 16:15 (ESV)
“And he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation.”
Up until the cross, the only nation that seemed to have a spiritual destiny was the nation of Israel. After Israel rejected Him, He went to the cross and restored the spiritual destinies of every nation. It is our responsibility be the agents of not just reconciliation but also restoration. That’s what the Apostle Paul said this in Romans 8:19 (ESV).
“For the creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the sons of God.”
Once we understate the mandate that Christ has restored the nations and expects us to be Ambassadors of Heaven on earth, the easy it becomes to become a priest and intercessor for the nations. It’s a part of our spiritual inheritance. So you see, when you begin to understand the scope of His calling, your life will take on new meaning as you stand and pray for the spiritual destiny of your nation. “Lord, give us a burden for our nation that we might stand in the gap for a 3rd Great Awakening to visit us and to restore the spiritual destiny of the United States”.
